Our Story

Belzanne is a sustainable brand, founded by Caribbean-British designer, Suzanne Ahwai.

“It all began on a sourcing trip to Mexico, when I discovered a co-operative of artisan women weavers high in the Zapotec mountains, producing the most beautiful textiles I had ever seen. In keeping with ancient traditions, the weavers spin sustainably-grown cotton on pedal looms and hand-dye them using plant dyes. A labour-intensive art, it takes around two weeks to produce just a metre of finished fabric. Weaving gives the women a vital source of income and independence. Enchanted by their stories, I began working with the co-operative to share their fabrics with people back home and beyond.

We’re committed to ethical sourcing, which means that every purchase supports sustainable practices and the fair treatment of workers.”

“Each Belzanne piece is a work of art, which will bring you joy for years to come.”
